The Ramayana is a legend that tells the story of a duel between Sri Lanka and India. The Sri Lankan king Ravana kept Sita under guard in the Ashoka forest and she spent some time crying remembering her husband Rama. There Ravana threatened her to marry him. And that event has become the theme of this painting. In recreating a historical story, Ramayana helped and followed the realistic style. Furthermore, through a study of the clothes and ornaments of that time, the costumes for Ravana, Sita, Mandodari, Hanuman, and other characters have been painted.
